Thank you for addressing female pain and the lack of importance paid to it. I have been refused epidurals twice (during the early stages of two births) I think because the (same) midwife didn’t agree and thought I should driver ‘naturally’ and she ignored my pleas. I felt utterly powerless and so frustrated. This sound like a horrendous situation for these women and I hope more practitioners acknowledge that if a man were asserting their desire to relief it would be dealt with better.

Interesting topic, it never ceases to amaze me how often women’s procedures are done with inadequate pain management. However I found the story telling long and drawn out in order to sound profound so it was a little insufferable.

Well told story telling. Ira Glass is on the production team; have often loved his work.

What terrible circumstances these women went through. The experiences they describe are of an absolutely archaic practice. To put patients through an incredibly painful procedure time and again and not look at why this might be happening is disgraceful. An experience such as this can cause PTSD. I’m a nurse and I can’t imagine seeing a patient go through this cold. The sentence Donna received is a JOKE. She didn’t even apologise in her statement to the judge. I immediately thought if Donna was a male nurse in the exact same position, he would have been treated differently by the judge. He would’ve been locked up longer. I hope Donna never works in healthcare ever again and has her nursing license canceled because she does not deserve to have one. I don’t have any sympathy for drug addict nurses that put vulnerable patients at risk, steal off their employer, and lie in order to feed their addiction. I DON’T CARE what circumstances drove her to taking fentanyl. I don’t care about Donna. She should be in prison for 5 years.
